Oprah and her New Sister

There was a touching story on Oprah Winfrey today. It seems that Oprah's mother gave a daughter up for adoption forty seven years ago.

The woman wanted to know her birth Mother and tried to track her down. She was denied because the Mother did not want contact with her. Their Mother felt ashamed that she gave her up for adoption because she could not afford to raise her.

She did get some information about how many siblings she had. She had a sibling born in 1954, and two other siblings who passed away.

After she listened to Oprah's mother giving an interview, there were many similarities in her story .

She has known since 2007 that she was probably Oprah Winfrey's half sister. It is amazing and attests to this woman's integrity that she was concerned how this would affect Oprah. Patricia also has a son and daughter who kept the secret along with her.

Most people would have called the tabloids and broke this news, and cashed in on a big paycheck.
Oprah and Pat and the rest of the family, I hope you have a good life together.

Katey Sagal Wins Golden Globe!

I was happy to see Katey Sagal win the Golden Globes. I have been a fan of Katey's for a long time.
I first watched her as the big-haired loud-mouthed Peggy Bundy. She was funny and made her character unique and memorable.

Katey is also talented as a voice actor in Futurama, her character Leela reminds you a little of Peggy Bundy in the future. Once again Katey makes Leela one of my favorite characters on the show.

Another one of my favorite roles for Katey was in Eight Simple Rules.She played the Mom who returned to a nursing career after staying home while her children were young.

She also is a talented singer and has released two albums of her own.
Katey has talent in both comedy and drama. In Boston Legal she played the mother of a son accused of murder, and the story line she was involved in was intense and gave you another view of her talent.

I read an interview she did in Redbook, I believe. She talked about her life and raising her children. One of the points she made was the fact that she wanted Kurt her husband to have a child. Since she felt that at her age surrogacy would be a better option, They have a beautiful little girl Esme.

At this time she plays Gemma Teller Morrow on Sons of Anarchy. This show is written by her husband Kurt Sutter. He is a multi talented guy. Without a doubt Katey deserved the Golden Globe for her role in this intense driven show. Congratulations to you Katey from a long time fan!

Tribute/Parody to Bing Crosby &David Bowie Performance

I saw Bing Crosby and David Bowie perform Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth in 1977. They performed it on a ChriaIt was a great performance with two generations and two different styles of musicians meshing to produce this recording. Here is a video of the performance:



Thirty Three years later a couple of new versions have been done,one is an animated version with Jack Black and Jason Seagal.





This version is pretty good,too. Will Ferrell is David Bowie. Check out the hair and the British Accent. John C Reilly is Bing Crosby, they both do a great job. They add their own little touch of comedy at the end

Aretha Franklin

I have been a fan of Aretha Franklin's since I was in high school, many years ago. Her songs have given me solace through many sad times, and joy in happy times. Natural Woman and Respect are powerful songs for women. I have danced to them, sang along with them, and cried with them. Aretha's  music means as much to me at 59 as it did at 17.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Aretha in her illness.  Aretha was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer,according to unconfirmed reports. She underwent surgery last week.

Michael Rooker Does he really get appreciated?

Michael Rooker is a great actor. He is a celebrity that you know his face, but not always his name. He has been one of my favorite actors for many years.

Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer was his introduction in to films, and a powerful performance it was. The movie was held up until 1990 because of controversy regarding it rating.

"The title role in "Henry" is played with unrelenting power by Michael Rooker, who since has gone on to major Hollywood movies (he was the redneck who confronts Gene Hackman in "Mississippi Burning," and the killer in "Sea of Love"). " Roger Ebert  


Since then he has built an extensive filmography. Some of my favorites have been the enraged father in Mall Rats, Mr. Svenning, he was the good guy in one of my favorite films Tombstone. Michael Rooker played Sherman McMasters who fought with the Earps. we can't forget about his role in Days of Thunder, Rowdy Burns. And in JFK,he played Bill Broussard.
His role in the AMC show ,The Walking Dead shows his talent. He plays a redneck,sexist,racist, living in the aftermath of a virus turning most of the population into zombies. 
"There's a ragtag group of folks who'll develop their own subplots (the best involves Michael Rooker's rootin'-tootin'...Merle Dixon, because Michael Rooker is a human god)". - Entertainment Weekly, October 27, 2010.

He has a lot of great projects in the works, both films and on  TV.  I will be watching and enjoying more of Michael Rooker's performances. 


His roles are mostly psycopaths ,villians, and the tough brutal guy. Michael can also play the good guy role often as a policeman. Let's face it, Michael can change his looks and his talent can expand into any role.
He is the only actor to have acted alongside all 3 of the major action heroes of the 1980's. He appeared with Sylvester Stallone in "Cliffhanger" (1993), Arnold Schwarzenegger in "The 6th Day" (2000) and Jean Claude Van Damme in "Replicant" (2001).

Any role he takes he does with intensity and skill and his addition to any movie enhances the celebrity cast.Check out some of his performances and you will become a Michael Rooker, fan.too.

Bristol Palin on DWTS

I think we all will agree, Bristol Palin is really not a star, but in all fairness to her, she is not the first person to be on DWTS who is not a star. How about Kate Gosselin? Even though she does have her own reality show her talent lies in having babies not in performing. But I digress. The subject of Bristol the Pistol Palin.
Who can believe she is still on? She is going to the semi-finals.
Why not, this show is a reality show based on popularity,and not on dancing. oh sure the judges repeat again and again, dancing is the what the show is all about.
If that were true Brandy would not have been eliminated. Although Bristol has improved over the weeks, she still is not that good. Brandy was great.
But Brandy does not have a Mother who can garner votes for her from intense people like the tea party members. Bristol feels people are voting for her because she is "real", sorry Bristol, you are still very young, the public are supporting you because of your Mother and her politics.
There are even web sites calling people to vote for Bristol to become the next DWTS Mirror Ball Champion. They even encourage all of those who don't watch to vote for Bristol.

This year may be see the trophy going to one of the worst dancers rather then one of the best.

Sadness of Lindsay Lohan

So much of the public is becoming disgusted with Lindsay Lohan's behavior, but I feel sadness. What is going to happen to this young girl? It seems she is destroying herself as so many other celebrities have done over the years. Lindsay needs to get her addictions and demons under control,and then maybe she will be able to resume her career. She needs to realize that all the excuses she is making are ruining her life.
It makes me sad to think what may happen to Lindsay Lohan if she does not.  It could ultimately end up with her not living to see thirty.
This was certainly a setback for me," Lindsay Lohan wrote, "But I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences." The 24-year old actress shared this statement on her Twitter on September 18th, after failing multiple random drug tests that were court-mandated. Because of this, she will have to spend 30 days in jail.
I hope that this is true, she will take responsibility so that her life will improve.She has the capability to get more roles in movies but her bad behavior and issues make it hard for film execs to trust her.
Rather then be disgusted with Lindsay maybe we should be saddened  that her behavior is ruining a young life,and hope that this latest firm Judge's decision will change her course.

Dancing With The Stars Margaret Cho

Margaret Cho was the latest star to be eliminated from DWTS. She was very tearful, I think it is a sad time for all to be sent home.  She seemed to try hard to perform at her best, last night they were dancing for rainbow pride.  Margaret is an advocate for gay rights.
I think it would be a hard road to go from comedy to dance. Kudos Margaret you did your best! You got to wear great fancy outfits, and learn some new dances. Maybe you be dancing on the DWTS tour.

Boo Hoo Michael Bolton!

Why is Michael Bolton such a whiner? He is so upset that Bruno,one of the judges on Dancing with The Stars criticized his dancing. He said Bolton's jive was the worst in the history of the show. Now Michael Bolton is offended, come on if you get that offended then you do not belong on this show. Criticism is what it is all about especially if you are bad, and  Michael Bolton was BAD. 
At his age, he should be able to accept criticism, and get on with it, not demand an apology and expect to see Bruno reprimanded because he was doing his job. Bruno has the expertise in this field, you do not.
Michael, you are not the first person to be judged for your bad performance. Move on and stop whining!

Eddie Fisher A great voice silenced

 I remember hearing Eddie Fisher as I was growing up. My mother was a huge fan of his. One of her favorites was Oh,My Papa, a beautiful sentimental song which Eddie sang beautifully.
His personal life was very sad, he was married to great singer and actress  Debbie Reynolds, his next marriage was to Elizabeth Taylor. Then he married the beautiful blond Connie Stevens.
His singing career did not survive the scandal of infidelity  and drug addiction.
He tried to restart hie career but never regained his popularity.

Blake Clark, the new voice of Slinky the Dog in Toy Story3

Toy Story 3 is in theaters,the new voice of Slinky the Dog is Blake Clark. Jim Varney has done the voice in the first two, he passed away in 2000.
Clark has been an actor for decades, he is often in movies with Adam Sandler. He is one of those character actors that you see in so many things but you don't always know his name.  His voice is gravely and distinct.
He was funny with his dry wit and sarcasm on Home Improvement as the hardware store owner. He also  has  appeared in numerous TV shows.

Toy Story 3 and Memories of Jim Varney

Toy Story 3 is in theaters now, and many fans are missing Jim Varney as Slinky the Dog. Jim passed away in 2000 from lung cancer.
Jim had a long career in tv and movies. He was best remembered for his character Ernest P Worrell, the lovable and not so bright klutzy guy. Ernest started out in numerous commercials, then Ernest went on to a TV series and movies. Ernest was a funny memorable character.
But so was Jim Varney, he had an established career before Ernest, and he was a very talented man . I hate to date myself but I have memories of Jim in the early eighties as Chad Everett's brother on TV series called The Rousters. And of course how about Jim as the sweet family patriarch Jed Clampett in The Beverly Hillbillies movie.
Jim worked with the community and visited sick children in his "Ernest " persona,he worked with Make A Wish to help terminally ill children get their wishes. Jim was a good guy.

I think of Jim Varney as Toy Story  3 comes to the screen, we will miss his distinctive voice as Slinky  the Dog.

Marisa has a romantic interest in John C Reilly in her latest movie,"Cyrus". Marisa plays a single Mother with and adult son played by Jonah Hill. The relationship between Marisa's character and John's is at risk because of the overprotective son.
The movie is a comedy with some depth into relationships developing, and the problems cause by other family members. The movie is about love, and what each person brings to the relationship. Marisa is adept at bringing that type of character to the screen,  a woman with a history of damaged relationships.
Marisa is an outstanding actress, my favorite movie she has done is still "My Cousin Vinnie," She was funny,feisty,and the driving force behind her man. She won an Oscar for that role. Well deserved,in my opinion.
 Marisa will be 46 this year, and she  was in People  Magazine's Most Beautiful People 2009. Marisa holds dual citizenship in Italy and USA.

Anniversary Of Michael Jackson's Death

It is hard to believe that it is a year since the King of Pop, Michael Jackson died a sudden death. His death is still shrouded in mystery, and has caused much controversy just as his life did.
Michael  Jackson left behind a huge  legacy of music and  millions of fans around the world. After his death sales of his music and memorabilia soared dramatically.
He also left three beautiful children who loved him and are grief stricken. They are young and are being raised by Michael's family and the spotlight will be beaming on them again as the anniversary of his death  approaches. I do hope that the media will be kind to his whole family as this is a grief ridden time for them.
TLC will air a special tomorrow for Father's Day , it will be a candid look at Michael's life with his children."Through all-new candid interviews with family and friends, we see a portrait of surprisingly grounded household. From reading lessons integrated into meals, play dates with neighbors and child-proofing the home, it is extraordinary to see how much of a hands-on, caring father Jackson really was," reports TLC. "It has been a year this month since the legendary icon passed away, but the special shows that through his three children, his legacy as a superstar and father will continue on."
Katherine Jackson plans on taking the three children to Michaels's hometown of Gary Indiana on the anniversary of his death. 
Katherine Jackson,  who is raising the children is releasing a book on Monday called Never Can Say Goodbye in reference to one of his hit songs. It will be a coffee table with pictures from Kathryn's archives.

Dina Lohan Carvel Feud

Dina Lohan is at it again. Apparently Carvel ice cream gave Ali a black card which entitled her (Ali) to free ice cream for 75 years.
But the entire family apparently is ordering large amounts of ice cream according to reports, and when Dina Lohan went to pick up a cake last week, and employee asked for ID and of course Dina is not Ali so they took the card and would not give her the cake.
She called the police. Can you believe that? She can not afford to pay for an ice cream cake !This was a quote from Dina to RADAR. "Finally he gave up and gave me my card back. But he told me, 'You can have the card, but you can't have the cake!'

"It just shows how we [Lohans] get treated so much worse than regular people."  Wah Wah ! What a family of whiners. Poor people can't even pay for ice cream,  Doesn't your heart ache for them.
Carvel made a mistake, originally they said the card was in Lindsay's name but then realized that Ali and Lindsay both had cards.
  “After speaking with Dina Lohan, it now appears that Ali may in fact have her own card.  While Ali originally was on our list, we thought we ended up deciding against issuing her one.  That now appears to not be the case. As I explained to her, it doesn’t change the story…because Ali wasn’t there either.  Neither girls have been with Dina when she’s attempted (& successfully) used the card since 2009.  It’s not a big deal, but I wanted you to have that update.

Really now doesn't she have more to worry about then getting free ice cream and now she wants to do battle with Carvel. I would be worried more about my daughter if I were Dina Lohan.

I have become a fan of HBO's Vampire show True Blood. It is exciting,lots of cliff hangers that keep you coming back.
It seems that Vampires  are making big impact on entertainment lately. A lot of these Vampires are not feasting on humans, they are drinking their nourishment
Check out Snoop Doog who created a song for Sookie Stackhouse, one of the main characters on True Blood.
Sookie is played by Anna Paquin on the show. She is a human who is dating a Vampire on the show.

Rue McClanahan passed away! Rest in Peace Blanche.

Rue MCClanahan passed away today. She was one of the Golden Girls, her role was Blanche the "man crazy" sexy senior citizen. The four Golden Girls made us laugh and entertained us with senior single ladies dating and enjoying life in Florida. The roles were played by four funny ladies.
Estelle Getty played the madcap Italian Mom of Dorothy played by Bea Arthur. Bea Arthur was strident and loud,similar to her role as Maude. Both Estelle and Bea passed in the last two years.
Now Rue passed away and Betty White is the only Golden Girl still here with us.
Rue,we will treasure all the laughter and entertainment, May you rest in peace!

One Tree Hill Is Picked up for Season 7

I started watching One Tree Hill because a co worker talked about it, and I wanted to see what it was all about. Now 7 years later, I am so glad I did. I watched and enjoyed the well written and well acted series, and I was so disappointed to hear that there was a possibility it was cancelled this year.
Many of the actors are young and they have matured in talent, just as they have grown up.

One Tree Hill has been picked up for another season,and I ma looking forward to seeing how the story will play out.

Betty White is such a funny Lady!

I have enjoyed watching Betty White since I was young. My Grandparents thought she was funny, and watched her on game shows. Her humor is sometimes a little raunchy, and even at 88 she can give it as good as ever.
She has played man crazy Sue Ann Nivens on Mary Tyler Show, she was the naive ditzy Rose Nylund on Golden Girls.
We enjoyed her as the gold digging snobby Ellen Harper on  which she was the niece of Rue McClanahan who she also worked with on Golden Girls.
In 2006 she appeared on Boston Legal as a crazy devious lady who entertained us and made us laugh.
And her Snickers commercial was hilarious!
Over the years she has appeared in several other tv series and movies, and she has a legion of fans hence the Facebook campaign for her to host Saturday Night Live.
At age 88 and half she was outstanding, I have watched it twice, and her  laughter and her own version of raunchiness were enjoyable. Saturday Night Live ratings were the highest in 18 months. Imagine that, the public loves our Betty White!

Bret Michaels on Celebrity Apprentice

Celebrity Apprentice shows the celebs in many different projects. And if you are a watcher of show year you will know many of these celebs have some nasty sides. Basically,they are like the rest of us,they have lots of faults.
Bret Michaels is not one of those. Over the last few weeks he has shown many sides of his personality, and he is a hard working organized guy. He appears to be a likable person,since he is a fellow Pennsylvanian, that doesn't  surprise me. Not only is Bret a good musician,he is a good guy.
At times, his creativity goes wild and he gets a little over the edge, but he takes responsibility for the actions he takes. He takes seriously each project on Celebrity Apprentice.
Bret Michaels  also showed that he is a loving father, a man who was heart-broken that his daughter might possibly be diabetic.
Bret has had some unfortunate health problems, he had an emergency appendectomy, and as he was recovering from that, he had a subarachnoid bleed. That almost took his life.
As I searched for information on the internet about his condition, I was disgusted by people suggesting that it might be a publicity stunt.
Come on people juts because the internet offers you the opportunity to say what you want, don't be ridiculous.
No one would want to pretend to have a subarachnoid bleed.
Bret is out of the hospital and he seems to be doing well. He is planning to get back to his busy schedule, but I do hope he will consider his health first.
He has two beautiful daughters, and he seems to adore them, so I wish Bret many years to watch them grow up.
